THE ATOS TRIO, from BERLIN

Thomas Hoppe, piano | Annette von Hehn, violin | Stefan Heinemeyer, cello.

Winners 2007 Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award (KLRITA)

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2008 ~ 7:30 PM
AMES CITY AUDITORIUM

Based in Berlin, the ATOS Trio was formed in Germany in 2003 and quickly developed an exceptional reputation for its luscious sound, wide-ranging repertoire, and fine interpretations. Last year, within several weeks, they took all the top honors at the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition and then were named the winners of the biennial award from the prestigious Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award consortium, of which Ames Town & Gown is a participant. Of their performances, the Frankfurter Neue Presse describes "an atmosphere that feasts on artistic care and earnestness as much as from unbounded joy of music-making . . ."
They will perform at the Ames City Auditorium on October 24 in the second concert of the Ames Town & Gown Chamber Music 2008-09 season.
Formed in 2003 by Annette von Hehn, violin; Stefan Heinemeyer, cello; and Thomas Hoppe, piano, the ATOS Trio rapidly developed a strong reputation as one of the finest young chamber ensembles performing today. Under the tutelage of their mentors, the Alban Berg Quartet, the trio has explored a variety of repertoire. Based in Berlin, Germany, members of the ATOS Trio are also committed to teaching; and each member enjoys a wide variety of performance activities outside those of the trio.
The KLR International Trio Award (KLRITA) was established to honor the renowned KLR Trio (Joseph Kalichstein, piano; Jaime Laredo, violin; and Sharon Robinson, cello) in perpetuity by giving recognition to this prestigious trio’s contribution to chamber music worldwide. In addition, the award was created to encourage and enhance the careers of accomplished and promising young and “rising” piano trios. The KLRITA, managed by the Chamber Music Society of Detroit, is awarded biennially. The KLRITA is supported by the collaboration of twenty participating U.S. chamber music presenters, which includes The Ames Town & Gown Chamber Music Association. Previous winners include the Claremont Trio in 2003 and the Trio con Brio Copenhagen in 2005. The ATOS Trio will make its twenty-concert award tour during the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons. The KLRITA also provides for a CD recording of the winning trio. The ATOS Trio’s recording will be released by Azica Records in October, 2008, in time to be available at the ATOS Trio’s Ames concert.

PROGRAM: For their concert in Ames, the trio will perform Haydn’s Trio in A Major, Hob. XV:18; Jean Francaix’s Trio (1966); and Tchaikovsky’s Trio in A Minor, op. 50.
